Henry VAN DE VELDE (1863-1957) 'Train Coupe Bench, 2nd Class'

Solid wood, chromed metal and imitation leather. 

Another model of this coupé can be found in the Design Museum, Ghent, Belgium. The coupé standing in Ghent is a first-class model, finished with soft fabric, whereas this is a model with skai or faux leather. 

According to a study, the benches were made in Kortrijk by Decoene, using Congolese wood. The durability was excellent for everyday items such as train coupes. Van De Velde was also very close in contact with the construction and visited the factory weekly while they were constructed.
