Buy & Bid at Flanders Auctions

The time has come and you’re preparing to bid. What’s next? Flanders Auctions makes it easy to place a bid on your favourite items.

1. Bid in-person

Bidding in person is always exciting. It offers a thrill like no other. To attend an auction and bid in person, you can register at the entrance of our auction house. Bring your photo ID and proof of address to collect a paddle prior to bidding.

Auction total: your offer + a buyers premium of 25% + a potential resale right
Address: Beernemsteenweg 99 - 8750 Wingene, Belgium

2. Absentee bid

Leaving an absentee bid is probably the easiest way of bidding, especially if you are unable to attend the live auction. You may place an absentee bid via mail, Whatsapp or via your Flanders Auctions account. If you are logged into your account on the website, simply find your favourite items and enter the maximum bid amount you wish to go up to. If your bid is more than the seller’s minimum reserve, the auctioneer will try to win the item for you at the lowest price they can.

Important: An absentee bid left in advance gets priority over the same bid amount in the room or on the telephones.
Auction total: your offer + a buyers premium of 25% + a potential resale right

3. Telephone bid

If you wish to bid by telephone, we can call you directly from the saleroom and bid on your behalf with the auctioneer. To avoid disappointment, we recommend that you consider an absentee bid as well. To register for a telephone bid, please contact us for assistance (mail, telephone, Whatsapp).

Auction total: your offer + a buyers premium of 25% + a potential resale right

4. Online live bidding

During our live auctions, we also provide the opportunity to bid online live. If you would like to bid online live, please register on one of the following platforms before the start of the sale. Registration on the Flanders Auctions website is not mandatory.

In addition to the Buyer’s Premium, the buyer is responsible for paying all relevant taxes and shipping costs.

Keep an eye on our homepage to find the links for the livestream. It is mostly possible to follow the auction live via Drouot, Live Auctioneers, Invaluable, The Saleroom and Lot-tissimo with video and sound.

You can bid on your favorite item by creating a Flanders Auctions account, by reserving a telephone line or by placing a bid through one of the partner platforms (Drouot, Live Auctioneers, The Saleroom, LotTissimo, 51BidLive, Invaluable…).

The resale right is an extra compensation fee that graphic and visual artists, including photographers, receive if one of their original works of art is resold by an art dealer or auction house. The resale right is calculated when the resale right of the work (excl. VAT) is equal to or greater than € 2,000. The amount of the resale right to be collected is currently:

  • 4% for the portion of the sale price up to € 50,000
  • 3% for the portion of the sale price between € 50,000.01 and € 200,000
  • 1% for the portion of the sale price between € 200,000.01 and € 350,000
  • 0.5% for the portion of the sale price between € 350,000.01 and € 500,000
  • 0.25% for the portion of the sale price exceeding € 500,000

However, the maximum amount of the resale right may not exceed € 12,500 per artwork (per resale).
