François Verbeke was born in 1960 in Roubaix (Fr) and moved to Belgium in 1971.
After his studies “Monumental art” at the Westhoek Academy in Koksijde, he starts creating freestone sculptures.
He manually carves fine, straight, delicate compositions in the natural blue stone totems and columns.
According to the artist his sculptures evoke “the sound of the close past and the present, and invite you to meditate”. He describes them as “brightly sounding sonars calling the ships back to their harbours”.
